CHOOSING YOUR FIRST IRONMAN®

Triathlon

CONSIDER THE

TIMING

THE TIMING

If this is really your first Ironman® Triathlon, you'll need some time to train. Probably 6-12 months. So look for a race that's far enough out so that you can actually train properly.

CONSIDER THE

TRAVEL

THE TRAVEL

You're going to have a LOT to deal with in the days and hours leading up to your first Ironman® race. There's something to be said for keeping the things you can control as simple as possible. To reduce extra stress, maybe race nearby.

CONSIDER THE

TERRAIN

THE TERRAIN

For your first race, you'll want to match up the type of terrain you can easily train on, with what you'll be racing on (best you can). Live in an area that's flat and only flat? Maybe don't sign up for a hilly race.

CONSIDER THE

TEMP.

THE TEMPERATURE

Wetsuit's can help make the Ironman® swim considerably easier. Remember though, that not all races are wetsuit lega. The water has to be under 76* to wear one legally.

CONSIDER THE

WEATHER

THE WEATHER

Make sure you spend some time checking previous year's weather history. Bad weather can impact your race (and potentially even cancel one of the 3 events).

EMBRACE YOUR

CHOICE

EMBRACE YOUR CHOICE

No matter what race you chooce, there will be something that comes up, but that's part of the journey. Remember, if it were easy, everyone would do it!
