BECOME A MORNING RUNNER

Running

START

SMALL

BABY STEPS

You don't have to run a marathon before dawn. Make it easy. Get up & drink coffee, read the paper, something you like. Gradually progress to exercising in the morning after a week of adjusting your sleep.

NEXT

SET UP FOR

SUCCESS

FROM FOOD TO CLOTHES

Lay everything out for the morning the night before. Don't make yourself do any "work" in the morning. Just get up, grab clothes already laid out, eat a breakfast already made, etc.

NEXT

GIVE YOURSELF

TIME

LET YOURSELF WAKE UP

Almost nobody can hit the ground running with an early alarm. We all need to 'wake up' after waking up. So build that in! Want to go for a run? Great, give yourself 15-30min to drink coffee and wake up before that run has to start.

NEXT

FIND A

FRIEND

CREATE ACCOUNTABILITY

Having someone else committed to waking up with you (spouse, friend, etc.) will help motivate you to do it, even if you don't want to, because you've promised them that you would (and same for them).

NEXT

ACCEPT

EXCEPTIONS

YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BE PERFECT

There will be days where you're too tired, didn't sleep well, don't feel great, and you're going to sleep past your alarm. You know what? That's OK! Aim at first to wake up early 2 days a week, then 3, then 4, etc. until you hit your goal. And be ok if you sleep in once and a while.
