THE FIT
Wetsuits should be snug. You should be able to move your arms & legs in a swimming motion without having the wetsuit slide around on your arms, shoulders, hips or legs.

THE BUOYANCY
A good wetsuit will have more material below the hips than above. This is meant to keep your hips & legs up on top of the water, while allowing maximum flexibility with the arms & shoulders.

THE WARMTH
Many triathlons do the swims in open water - which usually means colder water. Check your typical race day water temperature & compare it to the temperature rating of your desired wetsuit to make sure they match up.

THE HYDRODYNAMICS
Mid-top tier wetsuits will be coated in silicone on their outer layer. This helps repel water and make you more slippery when swimming. It's not totally necessary, but it is definitely helpful.

THE SEAMS
With all the movement of the arms in the water - take special note of how the suit is constructed. Too many seams, and you're at rish of ripping/tearing one. Too few and it may feel restrictive.
